The main objectives when designing this property was to unitised the steep incline of the block that fell away to reveal a 180° view of the canal. This single level lifestyle driven home captures the stunning views from as many rooms as possible, with beautiful high ceilings for added natural light and a large double height alfresco area to capture the beautiful canal breeze.

Designed to maximise an odd shaped block in a sought after location in Raby Bay, this lifestyle living home was all about capturing the picturesque waterfront views, creating multiple indoor/outdoor living areas that naturally flow through with natural light and ventilation.
The high quality finishes throughout each room of this multi level home were designed to carry a unique but complementary style that seamlessly flowed into the outdoor entertaining spaces with the expansive use of glass and louvres framing the north facing canal views.

This Brighton knockdown/rebuild property was an opportunity to design a home that maximises the blocks potential by creating all the day to day living spaces upstairs to take advantage of the newfound 180° views, ranging from Redcliffe and the Hornibrook Bridge, right around to the Port of Brisbane and the ground floor playing host to all the practical rooms.
With its mix of contemporary claddings, strong lines and imposing two storey precast concrete blade wall this property is a real stand out property set amongst homes of yesteryear.

Overview
Good orientation of a home can increase the energy efficiency of your home, making it more comfortable to live in and cheaper to run. This unusual and tricky shaped block pushed the boundaries of architectural design due to being faced with a number of external constraints.
Picture a steep sloping corner lot with a shape that resembled a baseball diamond and you might come close to understanding the complexities of this site. But with all the challenges, came a stunning 180° outlook to the thick, green sounding scrub.
With a mix of “Australiana” style claddings ranging from Hardie’s Axon to Colorbond Custom Orb – the contemporary façade compliments the natural green surroundings of both the native themed gardens and adjacent bushland.
Nestled amongst a number of “traditional” styled homes built in stock standard lots, it is safe to say that the Redlands House is an architectural dichotomy that not only responds to the challenges of a “tricky block” but excels at it.
